Cathedral Music Staff

John Renke, Canon Precentor (Director of Music), is passionate in his various roles as an organist, conductor, composer, liturgist and teacher. He has held positions in San Francisco Bay Area churches, including Grace Cathedral, St. Mary's Cathedral, and the National Shrine of Saint Francis of Assisi, where he founded the internationally acclaimed SCHOLA CANTORUM SAN FRANCISCO (ScholaSF). In addition to his Cathedral duties, John continues with ScholaSF as its Director Emeritus. He is also a popular recitalist, performing throughout the United States, Europe, and Australia.

Cathedral Organ Scholar Yuri McCoy is in his second year of graduate studies in piano at the University of Hawai`i, and his second year as Cathedral Organ Scholar. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Marshall University (Huntington, W. Va.) in 2008. Before coming to the Cathedral, McCoy played violin with the Huntington Symphony and the Marshall University Symphony, and was organist at St. John’s Episcopal Church (Huntington, W. Va.).
